Anything is good, in moderation. I cook because I love to and because I can share with those around me. I crochet for the same reason.

Do what you want to do, enjoy what you do and use it to touch those around you.

Wood Carving in Hawaii

When visiting Hawaii, the friends we were with wanted to find a Koa wood carving to display.  We learned that Koa wood is from a tree endemic to the Hawaiian islands.  While it is the second most populous tree on the island, it is highly prized for its beauty and has had to be regulated in order to prevent over harvesting and destruction of the species.  Other types of wood we found were Milo and Monkey Wood.  If you are looking for carved pieces, your first stop should be the the Waikoloa Kings' Shops to visit the Ohana Carvers.  They have beautiful pieces made from both Koa and Mila wood.  Our friends found the Koa wood turtle they wanted and we decided on a Mila wood whale tale.  Don't see what you want?  Ask - maybe they are working on something that would be what you are looking for.
