Anything is good, in moderation. I cook because I love to and because I can share with those around me. I crochet for the same reason.

Do what you want to do, enjoy what you do and use it to touch those around you.

Chocolate Whoopie Pies (aka Gobbs)

No matter where in Pennsylvania you are from, no matter what you call them, Whoopie Pies are a Pennsylvania Dutch treat, through and through.  Here is but one version of the recipe:

  4 C all-purpose flour                                                               2 Egg Yolks
  1 C Dutch-process cocoa powder                                              For filling
2 Tbl baking soda                                                                      2 Egg Whites
1 Cup Sour Or Buttermilk                                                          2 Tsp Vanilla
  1 C Water, Hot                                                                         4 Tbl Milk
1/2 Tsp Salt                                                                              4 Tbl Flour
  2 Tsp vanilla                                                                             1 1/2 C Crisco
  1 C Shortening                                                                          2 C Powdered Sugar
  2 C Sugar

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Mix all cake ingredients and drop from a spoon on a greased cookie sheet.  Bake for 10 minutes.  Combine all filling ingredients and beat in 2 cups powdered sugar.  Add 1 1/2 c Crisco, beating until icing texture.  Put between cakes.

You can also add Jif peanut butter to the frosting recipe, mixing in to your taste.
